Day Trips

Day trips are an effective way for local and international tourists to explore specific regions of our beautiful country and Moya Wa Tenga offers a variety of destinations and activities all within 3 hours drive from Johannesburg. The emphasis is on flexibility and all activities can be adapted to suite your specific needs!

The Elephant Sanctuary & Hartbeespoort Dam

The Elephant Sanctuary is situated just outside the town of Hartbeespoort and affords guests with the once in a lifetime opportunity of getting up close and personal with the majestic African Elephant. Highly qualified guides will talk about the anatomy and physiology of the animals before giving you the chance to walk trunk-in-hand with the elephants. The day is rounded off with some curio shopping at the Chameleon Village where you can find everything from African masks right through beaded key-rings.

Pilanesberg National Park

Moya Wa Tenga Safaris specialises in day trips and overnight safaris to Pilanesberg National Park. Situated just 2 hours from Johannesburg, Pilanesberg provides what is arguably some of the best game viewing in South Africa. The concentric hills of this extinct volcano are the result of eruptions which took place some 1,200 million years ago and provide the perfect backdrop for viewing general plains game (such as zebra and wildebeest) and the Big 5.

Herpetological Day Trips

Ever wanted to find out more about reptiles and amphibians? Join us on this educational expedition as we go with a highly qualified expert in field herpetology (the branch of zoology that deals with reptiles and amphibians) on a mission to find and learn about some of South Africa’s herps. No one can show you herps in the wild like Moya Wa Tenga! All trips include introductory lectures covering biological and bio geographical aspects of reptile & amphibian conservation, active searching for herps in the field, as well as a closing discussion.

Maropeng & The Sterkfontein Caves

The Maropeng Visitor Centre is an exciting world-class exhibition focusing on the development of humans and our ancestors over the past few million years, and has recently been accredited with World Heritage Site status. A full day trip takes you along a guided journey through the  Visitors Centre before delving into the depths of the Sterkfontein Caves, where scientists discovered many hominid and animal fossils dating back more than 4 million years. Round of the day at a traditional craft market and dinner at an African themed restaurant.

Sun City & The Valley of Waves

Sun City is internationally renowned as one of the world’s most exotic and extravagant holiday resorts and is a year-round holiday paradise, offering a variety of activities from Elephant-Back Safaris to Paragliding and even a themed water park. Sun City also offers a number of restaurants, casinos and spectacular shows. Sun City is in close proximity to Pilanesberg National Park, making it an ideal component of an overnight safari to the park.
