Our 6 night, 7 day Classic package provides travellers looking for a comfortable way of exploring some of Botswana’s most beautiful, and unspoilt wilderness regions. Camps selected in this package provide an excellent mix of land and water based activities to ensure that you get the most out of your Botswana experience.
The itinerary featured below can easily be adjusted to allow for 3 nights at 2 camps instead of 2 nights at 3 camps.
Day 1 – 3
On arrival at Maun Airport and after clearing customs & immigration, you will be met by a Wilderness Safaris representative who will assist you with the arrangements of your scheduled light aircraft transfer to Chitabe Camp.
Chitabe Camp is a luxurious 8-roomed, tented camp built on one of the most beautiful islands in the Okavango Delta, in a private area that is bordered on three sides by the Moremi Game Reserve. The camp is located in a diverse area incorporating mopane woodlands, acacia, floodplains and the perennial delta, all of which provide a variety of wildlife. Accommodation consists of eight spacious East African style tents that are built on elevated wooden decks, beneath the lush tree canopy. Each tented room has en-suite facilities with flush toilets, and a shower and basin with hot and cold running water. The thatched dining area, lounge and pub are also raised on decks overlooking the surrounding flood plains. A pool allows guests to cool off from the heat of the day.
Activities consist of day and night game drives in open 4×4 vehicles accompanied by an experienced guide. Shorter nature walks are sometimes offered. Wildlife viewing is good, and includes Buffalo, Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Reedbuck, Lechwe, Impala, Zebra and Hippo. Wild dogs occur in the area. Night drives can be very rewarding with good sightings of the rarer nocturnal animals. Access into this area is only by aircraft.
Day 3 – 5
At a time to be advised by the camp management, you will be transferred from Chitabe Camp to the appropriate airstrip for your scheduled light aircraft transfer to Xigera Camp.
Xigera Camp (pronounced Keejera) is a luxury tented camp situated in the Moremi Game Reserve in the heart of the Okavango Delta. Xigera has something for everyone, in an area where there are no other Moremi camps and where permanent water all year round allows one to enjoy a variety of activities. Enjoy a true Delta experience while you sit back in a mokoro (dugout canoe) and silently glide through the tranquil Okavango waterways or watch the sunset and birds gliding home to roost from a motorboat on the Xigera Lagoon. When water levels permit, game drives (usually September to May) allow the opportunity to observe wildlife and the unique Delta scenery from the comfort of a Land Rover.
Nestled in a magnificent riverine forest, Xigera consists of 10 luxuriously furnished tented rooms with en-suite facilities and outdoor shower. Each room is raised off the ground on a wooden deck offering superb views of the seasonal floodplain and waterhole. Meals and drinks are enjoyed under the thatch of the raised lounge, pub and dining area overlooking a permanently flowing channel. A traditional boma offers alternative dining under the African stars. Wooden walkways wind through the forest connecting the rooms to the main area. There is a plunge pool for cooling off and relaxation. The wooden footbridge, a unique feature to Xigera, connects Xigera Island to the next one and is often used by Lion and Leopard moving between the islands allowing guests great viewing opportunities. Birding in the area is excellent, with Pel’s Fishing Owl, Slaty Egret, Wattled Crane, African Skimmers and a host of eagles, vultures, raptors and kingfishers to be found. The area has the highest density of the rare Sitatunga antelope found anywhere in the Okavango Delta.
Day 5 – 7
At a time to be advised by the camp management, you will be transferred from Xigera Camp to the appropriate airstrip for your scheduled light aircraft transfer to Savuti Camp.
Savuti Camp is situated in the Linyanti Concession along the Savute Channel in northern Botswana. The site of the camp is about 17 kilometres ‘downstream’ from the Zibadianja Lagoon – the source of the Channel. Between 1980 and 2008 the Channel stopped flowing and became an unusual and productive ribbon of grassland that served as a corridor and feeding ground in the surrounding woodland for a wide variety of herbivores. In 2008, the Channel once more became a deep, clear waterway harbouring hippo and aquatic life with myriad varieties of waterbirds. Savuti Camp is a comfortable camp providing accommodation in 7 walk-in tented rooms with en-suite facilities. Each room is raised off the ground on wooden decks. The camp has a thatched dining area, bar and plunge pool, all on raised wooden decks. There is also a curio shop and a boma area.
There is a waterhole close to camp and in the dry season this attracts large numbers of animals that guests can view from the camp. Activities include game drives in open 4×4 Land Rovers, canoeing (this is water level permitting and subject to elephant concentration), hides, night drives and walks with an armed guide. Wildlife in the area includes all of Botswana’s big animals and is one of the best areas in the country to see predators. There is also a good concentration of plains game in the area.
At a time to be advised by the camp management, you will be transferred from Savuti Camp to the appropriate airstrip for your scheduled light aircraft transfer to Kasane Airport for your onward travel arrangements.
